Requirements
Silk Contract Logistics along with its partners Kore Communications, Telstra Corporate, TBTC Melbourne East identified the need for a small cell Distributed Antenna System at their Port of Brisbane Site. Design called for two Cel-Fi repeaters to be installed in two offices on opposite sides of the main warehouse facility.
The main office required a simple upgrading of the existing Telstra Equipment already on site. The rear dock office however had no true line of site and required a new installation from top down.
Backbone
- 2 xCel-Fi GO Stationary for Telstra
- 2 x Internal Dome antennas
- 15 mtr Heliax cabling
- 2x External Blackhawk LPDA antennas
Challenges
- Dock office situated between two large overhead awnings and surrounded by shipping containers.
- Line of site issues due to other adjacent container handling facilities.
- Limited access to roof Port of Brisbane.
- Working at height.
- Positioning Cel-Fi units and Distributed Antenna Systems to enhance the intermittent signal within the facility.
Solution
Design and Supply Telstra Cellular Distributed Antenna System through out the facility. Main office simply required the incoming cabling to be combine and split providing signal to existing 4g modem and new Telstra Cel-Fi Go cabled to a new Distributed Antenna System antenna in the middle of the Office. The rear dock office required a new mast and antenna to be installed on the main warehouse roof. Providing line of site to Telstra tower. Heliax 450 cable was use as they main lead in to the the second Cel-fi unit rack mounted in in existing cabinet. New Distributed Antenna System cabling was installed between the rack and dock office penetrations.

Kore’s JDSU Base Station Analyser along with hand held IOS and Android devices were used to confirm signal levels after installations. Multiple test throughout the building confirming signal strength better than -80 Dbm. Further simulated testing of data speed rates were conducted utilising hand held IOS and android devices running speed test throughout the office. With minimum reading of 49 Mbps down and 18 Mbps in the front office and 10 and 11 MBps in the rear dock office.
System Benefits
- No more dropped customer calls
- Improved data efficiency
- Improved safety due to real world access.
